The Reality of Dental Insurance

youtube thumbnail

Dental insurance can help offset the cost of care, but it is not comprehensive coverage and typically includes annual limits and restrictions. As an unrestricted dental provider, Avon Village Family Dentistry works with nearly all insurance plans and submits claims on your behalf to help maximize your benefits. Please note that insurance companies provide estimates—not guarantees—so patients are ultimately responsible for understanding their coverage and any remaining balance. If you have questions about your plan or benefits, our team is always happy to help.

Frequently Asked Questions, Answered!

Whether you’re looking for a family dentist in Avon or you’re interested in a specialty service, like Invisalign®, you likely have a few questions on your mind. Fortunately, we have answers! If you can’t get on the phone right now, then read on to learn the answers to a few FAQs.

How do I get emergency dental care?

We’re open five days a week and offer morning, lunchtime, and afternoon hours. So, there’s a good chance that we’ll be able to assist you right away.

Important reminder: If you are experiencing any potentially life-threatening symptoms, like uncontrollable bleeding, then you should call 911 or head to the ER.

What do you do if you can't afford a dentist?

Over the years, more and more patients have come to believe that dentistry is expensive. The reality is that neglect is what’s costly. In other words, if you want to protect your smile from harm and your wallet from an unexpected bill, you need to incorporate healthy habits into your routine, like scheduling a dental checkup and cleaning every six months.

We also need to mention here that we welcome dental insurance and flexible financing as well. This allows us to work with all sorts of budgets, so don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns about the cost. That way, we can provide answers as well as more insight into different financial solutions that are available.

What level of education is required to be a dentist?

The first step is earning an undergraduate degree, usually in a major that’s heavy in math and science. Then, they must be accepted to an accredited dental school in the U.S. From there, the aspiring dentist embarks on a 3+ year-long journey to obtain their Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Sciences (DDS) degree. Finally, they must complete continuing education hours each year to maintain their license.

Of course, some dentists go above and beyond this criterion. Take Dr. Mentasti, for example. She earned her dental degree as well as her master’s in public health. In the years since, she has completed advanced training on several topics, including dental implants, cosmetic dentistry, and sleep apnea. Not only that, but she is a Preferred Provider for Invisalign and maintains active memberships with several professional organizations, including the Connecticut State Dental Association.

How much does a dental checkup and cleaning cost in Avon?

The cost of a routine dental visit can vary depending on a few factors, including whether or not you have dental insurance. This is important because most providers cover 100% of the cost of preventive care, including biannual checkups and cleanings. If that’s the case for you, then you won’t have to pay anything out of pocket!
